Now folks, I have to ask you; what do you think would be the absolute worst way to die? Well, in the new film After.Life, another fate-worse-than-death scenario is introduced to us in a very slick little film that had me locked in front of the t.v. (I was so into the film that I even forgot about the pizza that I had ordered!) And, while the undertakers in the viewing audience may not appreciate it, it is a pretty darn entertaining flick for the rest of us...

After a horrific car accident, doe-eyed Anna (Christina Ricci, Cursed) wakes up as her body is being prepared for burial. (Yikes! Could anything be worse, folks?) Confused and frightened, Anna finds that she is unable to move as her clothes are cut from her body by the creepy undertaker (Liam Neeson, Taken).

Mr. Neeson does an awesome job as the mysterious undertaker; he smiles and coos at Anna; assuring her that, yes, she really is dead and that only he can help her with the transition to the after-life. But when Anna's distraught beau, Paul (Justin Long, Drag Me to Hell) begins to ask questions about her death, we begin to wonder: could Anna still be alive? With her funeral a mere two days away, can Anna save herself or will she be forced to face her own death?

While I did find a few things that were a bit too similar to other films; I was reminded of The Sixth Sense meets Final Destination. (i.e: Flashes of red as signposts throughout the film and the feeling that death was coming for her long before her untimely demise.) Outside of that, the film is beautifully Directed and Co-Written by Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo (Pate).

There are plenty of long, moody shots that really bring on the suspense in this film as you are dragged along with Anna's character through her frightening ordeal. (There are a gaggle of nude scenes of Ms. Ricci in this film and she is so very thin, it made me want to throw a sandwich at her.) But all in all, she and Mr. Neeson give fabulous performances!

After.Life puts a clever and entertaining spin on the after-death theme and is well worth a rental and or purchase....
