You know that flat, copper-taste that fills your mouth when you're balls-out scared? Yeah, there's like an hour and ten minutes of that.

[REC]² lives up to, if not completely exceeds, expectations. This is the kind of experience horror fans gladly pay for, again and again in theaters until it comes out on DVD…or, in this case On Demand (hooray for 48-hr. rentals!)...then again, maybe that's just me.

We open 15 minutes after the chaotic outbreak of [REC], where a small SWAT team is gearing up with mini cameras and weapons to enter the apartment building. The infected are coming from every imaginable direction, and Balagueró and Plaza take gorgeous advantage of those moments, muffling or completely knocking out sound, it seems like a no-brainer with all that's going on, but the presentation is just so completely involving, freak outs are bound to occur. Fellow gamers will automatically recognize the comfortable 1st person perspective so vital in total immersion.

The storyline goes much deeper this time around as we learn much more about the deadly virus, and what it might mean for the city (and future sequels, as we reported last month which are already on the slate). Balagueró and Plaza's fantastic choice of branching out from 1 camera-1 POV into 3 units give a wonderfully rounded feel to truly a sensational experience.

From story to visual choices to sound, the film is an absolute masterpiece of fear.

Overall Rating: A well-deserved and very solid 5
