Paco Plaza's REC Genesis and Jaume Balaguero's REC Apocalypse, are a go from Filmax Entertainment, as the company greenlights the concluding films in the groundbreaking zombie franchise.
While Plaza and Balaguero are developing the franchise's final films together, each one will receive a solo directing deal for their project.
Fall 2011 will bring REC Genesis, exploring the origins of the zombie mutant virus (written by Plaza and Luis Berdejo, a fellow co-writer of REC and director of upcoming The New Daughter.)
Once he's completed production on his upcoming thriller Flatmate, Balaguero will unveil REC Apocalypse in 2012.
As we announced last month, the duo's [REC]² is expected for a North American arrival with a video on demand launch in June. The film continues the chaos in [REC] as a SWAT team goes into the quarantined apartment building to restore order.
