Being a big fan of The Clash of the Titans, circa 1981, starring Harry Hamelin, I was eager to see the budget-busting remake the very minute I saw the first trailer. Well, folks, I saw it yesterday in the theater and boy, was I impressed..
Clash of the Titans takes us back to Greek mythology; the days when Zeus, Hades and Poseidon- ruled the earth. But man was tiring of the God’s punishments and restrictions, so he begins to exert his independence. Man’s actions so angered the Gods, a war begins between heaven and earth as the Gods try to regain control of their creation.
Now, we meet Perseus, a simple fisherman. But, this young man is about to learn that he is actually a demi-god, the son of Zeus. He will embark on an dangerous journey to kill the Krakken, a supernatural mega-beast, and free the humans from the Gods’ grasp once and for all.
I know that I have put this fabulous movie into a neat and tidy nut-shell. There are so many elements to the underlying story and though writers Travis Beacham and Phil Hay took a little creative license with their Greek mythology, it is still a great tale.
What was the most amazing part of this movie was the CG work, which, of course, is the majority of the film. The lush and detailed scenes are amazing, almost dizzying, and really immerse the viewer in the era. A real treat for all of the senses, Clash of the Titans is definitely an epic adventure well worth seeing….and owning!
