Brad Pitt is back for blood as his Plan B production company teams with Summit Entertainment for Vlad. Currently slated for 2012, Vlad follows the life of the young prince Vlad Ţepeş (Vlad the Impaler), whose brutal deeds and ambitious blood-lust became the genesis for the greatest horror icon of all time.
Although horror fans ravenously received Pitt in Neil Jordan's 1994 Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles the actor is, regrettably, not donning the cape of the sadistic royal as Summit is anxious to break in new talent for the epic role. (I'm personally putting my vote in for at least a cameo as Vlad's father.) Despite being the catalyst for Bram Stoker's legendary novel Dracula, and Summit being the home of the breakout 'Twilight Saga' franchise, there won't be a vampire in sight; the film will be a period piece about real-life 15th century lord, that will surely kick up enough highlights as to why the Impaler was such an inspiration for the 1897 novel in the first place.
Vlad was written by actor, Charlie Hunnam ('Sons of Anarchy', Children of Men), and Anthony Mandler is in place to direct. Casting is still under development.
