Now if you judge the movie, Farm House, by its cover then you will make the same mistake as I did, folks. How many times did I pass its terrible cover art thinking "Oh, brother, that looks like a crappy low-budget one." Well, kimosabe, I was wrong! This little gem is horror-done-right and should be on your must-rent list!

The movie premise is simple enough; a young couple with a multitude of marital problems gets in a car accident in the middle of nowhere. Spatting about whose fault it is as they search for help, they stumble upon rows of grapes and a quaint old farm house. But, the winery is owned by a strange couple who are not what they seem. They are overly friendly and suddenly know way too much about the young couple and their problems...

I won't give any more of the film away, folks, but I will say that Farm House was more than a pleasant surprise! For all of us who saw Steven Webber re-do the role of Jack Torrance in the re-make of The Shining can attest to his incredible talent as an actor. He can play the part of a psychopath so well! Well, Mr. Webber is just as frightening in his Farm House role as Samael, the winery owner. Along with his wife, Lil (Kelly Hu, The Scorpion King); the two make for a scary couple as things go steadily down-hill for their new guests.

Farm House reminded me of some old-school 70's horror movies with that satanic cult feel to them. Director George Bessudo (Lake Dead) brings that classic feel to the movie along with some graphic and up-to-date torture scenes. The scene with the cheese-grater still puts my teeth on edge just thinking about it! I must warn you that there are no bright and shiny people in this movie; all have deep, dark secrets that come out as the movie progresses. Sometimes the flashbacks in this film get on your nerves, but they are necessary to the story-line so stick with it. The great ending makes the entire movie worth while.

All in all, Farm House is a cool horror treat well worth a rental and/or purchase.
