The evil tykes have struck again! For all of us that cringed when we saw films like Bad Seed, The Omen and The Good Son; there's a movie that you have to go rent (or buy) today....This minute.... Well, after you read this, of course.

The movie, Orphan, is not gruesome or gory or packed with Boo's, but I guarantee it will make your skin crawl....

Orphan begins as we meet a seemingly happy and well to-do young family. Kate (Vera Farmiga, Joshua) and her hubby, John (Peter Sarsgaard, The Skeleton Key). Raising two young children, they are heart-broken when their third child is still-born. After some therapy and conquering alcoholism, they decide to adopt a child.

After a visit to the local orphanage, they happily bring home Esther (Isabelle Furman, '09 Children of the Corn); pale and unusually bright, she seems like the perfect addition to the family. But, her strange behavior and mannerisms soon begin to bother her new mother, Kate. Delving deeper into Esther's past uncovers some terrifying truths, but no one wants to believe that this sweet little girl could be dangerous.

But, Esther is not just dangerous, she's deadly.

Co-produced by Leonardo Di Caprio and nicely Directed by Juame Collet-Serra ('05 House of Wax), Orphan is an intricate and frightening tale. Like all movies of this nature, the thought of a child being evil, psychotic, or in any way capable of harming people... It just rubs us wrong. And Esther is as bad as they come! The young Isabelle Fuhrman really gives us a powerhouse performance in her role as the evil Esther, proving what a talented young actress she is. In fact, the entire cast does a fantastic job!

I was really wow-ed by this film; it is one of the few that I've immediately started watching again when it was over... There is plenty of tension and moody atmosphere to be had with this nail-biting thriller and I highly recommend it as a rental and/or purchase.

I ran out and bought it the next day!

Overall Rating: 4 1/2
