Source: Imagine Science Films The second annual Imagine Science Film Festival (ISFF) brings its science-in-fiction film screenings and panel discussions to three boroughs – Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens – from this October 15 to 24. Fifty films representing 9 countries were selected from more than 250 submissions for this year’s event. Numerous films are making their world premiere and several are making their New York premiere.

The range of screening venues enables ISFF to effectively deliver its message of “science for everyone” to wide audiences from every background. Panel discussions will be held with the festival’s actors, directors, journalists and scientists, including Eric Kandel, Harry Kloor, and Jad Abumrad. This open forum allows guests to explore an array of topics from mathematics, physics and neuroscience, to evolution and climate change.

“There is a definite need to create a dialogue between scientists and the public,” says Alexis Gambis, Ph.D., Artistic Director and Founder of the Imagine Science Film Festival. As a scientist and a filmmaker, Gambis explains, “The ISFF provides a creative platform for scientists to share their inspiration with the public in relatable and engaging ways.”

"ISF encourages a greater collaboration between scientists who dedicate their lives to studying the world we live in and filmmakers who have the power to interpret and expose this knowledge, ultimately making science accessible and stimulating to a broader audience." All Imagine Science Film Festival screenings are open to the public. The 2009 venues include Tribeca Cinemas, Galapagos Art Space, New York Hall of Science, The Bell House, CUNY Graduate Center, and The New School.
