TALENT WITHOUT BORDERS | JON MACK dystopia Siren | October 2009

Jon Mack brings an incredibly eclectic vibe to our site as she transcends the typical label of Hollywood beauty. Looking like Ava Gardner would usually be enough for some women, but from acting to music, with roles as Muse and Creator, Jon meets her passions head on with all the drive of a hurricane!

Watch for her in the much anticipated SAW VI on October 23rd!

dM: What was the starting point of your careers?

JM: Funny enough, they've both had a few starts and stops...My path has not been traditional at all, even if there is such a thing in the entertainment industry I went out to pursue my ambitions in New York when I was 17 and have grown and learned from that point and hope to continue to expand in everything I do that's creative, whether it's music or acting or art. I took a few years off of acting in order to really immerse myself with making music and recording so I'm not sure if that's a start of stop but more of a change of focus. I do that from time to time in order to keep the balance. I'm lucky that I can be creative in more than one avenue. I still feel as if I have miles to go before I sleep, so to speak...

When did you decide that performing was your life?

I always gravitated toward it with no thought. What's odd is that I'm a pretty shy person actually in my day to day life so there's another aspect of me that comes out when I am creative and in that zone It kind of chose me, I guess...but now I'm falling in love with more than just performing I love the creation of projects and ideas and putting it all together like a puzzle.

How & when did you get your start as a model?

I started doing local small thing in Michigan when I was 15 but then I went to New York and did a tiny amount while I was going to school at Tisch. Most of my modeling was done on the west coast and it was something that was more for peripheral income and many times for artistic expression. I submitted myself for many jobs and got in that way rather than the typical agency route I never considered modeling my career but it was something I did for creativity and sometimes a bit of income.

What shoot has been your favorite so far? Can you tell us about it?

Loved the work I just did with Brian Hayes...have had many that I've enjoyed so it's tough to pick a favorite.

Now you've worked with one of my favorite photographers, the twisted genius Jeffery Scott, what was that like? What was your character in the image?

Jeffery is an intense and passionate artist who has a strong vision in his head before he even starts working with you. Saying that, I've also seen him go in a totally new direction and make another piece just from a moment he has with you before the lens! He seems like an artist who always has a muse and a driving force to inspire him I really like the images we created together.

How did your collaboration with him begin?

He contacted me from seeing some of my images online and it went from there.

Is there a particular piece of his that you liked most? Was it a piece you were featured in? What was its theme or the photograph's 'story'?

I love the piece we did together called "Burn" It's very simple yet elegant and regal, like he captured a female warrior moment It is another version of me in one of Jeffery's parallel realities.

After being a part of a Jeffery Scott project, working in SAW VI must be a walk in the park! Some actors in horror films are die-fans of the genre and some can't watch it but love the work, which are you?

I don't know if I'm a die hard fan but I do like a quality scare from time to time...I have an appreciation for our shadow side and a desire to explore that within balance...mine is of a more psychological taste though.

How did you get involved with the SAW VI project?

Right timing. Audition for 3 roles and being right for one of them

How would you describe [your character] Jane? Can you give us an idea of why or if she'll be in the mix with Jigsaw's victims? (Without giving too much away of course, ha)

Don't think I'm allowed to say other than she has some similarities to the Amanda character and you'll see why...

Jigsaw's victims always have a very dark secret to their character, was there a particular mindset that you had to get into before the camera was rolling?

Yes, that frantic place my character dwells...

Can you tell us about the kind of traps can we expect to find this time around? Is there a particularly demented one that should become a new SAW fan favorite?

My lips are sealed :)

What was the funniest moment on set?

Sitting next to the Jigsaw puppet in makeup...Surreal yet comical at the same time I mean, it's a DOLL, but still...

What would be your dream role?

An angelic warrior being...why not? Something that radiates light and power because I've played the other side of that coin already...that's a lot of fun too but its nice to switch back and forth basicallly any strong or fascinating female archetype character.

Which do like better-- horror films or suspense films?

Suspense or psy-thrillers.

What’s your favorite film of all time?

Don't have a favorite film because there's MANY amazing films but I will say that I love Kubrick's films overall He's one of a list but he pops in my mind at the moment.

What's the best film you've seen this year?

I loved District 9 and Inglorious Basterds for different reasons so I must say they're both equal so far.

But above everything you do lies music. How long have you been a musician and what were some of your favorite performances?

I've been singing since I was a teenager and started playing in bands when I was 15 I got sidetracked a bit with acting but I always gravitate back because music is such a challenge and also such a reward there's nothing else like it!

How did your band, Aurodrone get together? How long have you been together?

The band that is on the album and recordings is more like me collaborating with other talented artists and creating something new together Auadrone's entity onto itself I suppose...the live band are players that I'm evolving into collaboration with more now...it's constantly changing and that's good I started the project in 06.

How has the launch of 'Whitelite Brightlite' been received? How has it amped up your schedule, and what kind of tour dates can we expect? Are you still performing in Los Angeles or are you expanding across the nation now as well?

I released the album completely independently and I have to say that I'm pleased that it has been receiving positive feedback and gathering steam. It's a steeper climb when you're an artist putting something out on your own, but it's also very rewarding to see people responding to it and watching it grow because it's all your up to you to get it out there and promote it Still performing in LA but also looking to expand this coming year across the states as well as possibly festivals in other countries depending on what's going on how that unfolds...definitely my goal is to get out and play everywhere I can that's not just LA.

Is there a core theme to your music? What is the theme/and or passion that drives your style of expression?

Finding inner strength in difficulty...Finding out what your made of and trusting that guidance you get from your own self...Those things and Love basically I'm a romantic at heart believe it or not!

You have certainly raised the bar for women pursuing all of their ambitions to the fullest! How do you manage such diverse fields with so much energy and drive, and without a parallel universe involved?!

Thank you...Actually there may be a parallel universe involved after all!

What have been the biggest highlights in your career so far?

Finishing the album was a big milestone...Now I'm excited about this year coming up...The shows we're going to play, the films I'm working on I'm always looking ahead these days.

What do you have next on your plate?

About to go to Louisiana to film another movie for Sy Fy channel then I'm back in LA for more shows as well as the Saw premiere...all this and writing more material for the next album.

Where can fans expect to see you next?

We have some shows coming up in LA but they can also see me in Saw 6 which opens Oct. 23rd as well as the Sy Fy channel film Mongolian Death Worm which will air on the channel in March

What do you do for fun...if you ever find some downtime?

I love nature and riding horses so anything like that gives me lots of inner peace and calm...Also love to travel!

What's your favorite indulgence?

I love my sweets...bad habit that I'm working to break but I've got to admit that I do have a massive sweet tooth that I control most of the time I think dark chocolate tops that list.

Is there any field or goal you still want explore or achieve?

Want to get back into my painting and art again at some point...I also would love to be able to help people in need across the world so perhaps an ambassador of some kind. I've always gravitated toward that .

What is your ultimate goal?

To live a fully balanced life where everything is abundant in all areas and I'm able to help others with my success...This, and I want to leave behind great works of art for others to enjoy after I'm gone. I think that's the ultimate gift an artist can bestow upon the world!

Is there anything you'd like to take this opportunity to promote?

Yes, of course I must tell everyone to check out my music at www.myspace.com/auradrone or please purchase the cd/download at www.itunes.com/auradrone, or www.cdbaby.com/auradrone! Both the Whitelite Britelite albums and the 'Rehabiliated' remix album are up there We plan on making the rounds this year so stay tuned...
