Toronto After Dark Film Festival is one of the world’s leading showcases of thrilling cinema. The critically acclaimed annual festival screens new horror, sci-fi, fantasy, action, animated and cult films from around the world, including many award-winning features and shorts. Last year’s festival was attended by a record 8,500 enthusiastic film fans and over 100 members of press and industry. In a poll of local filmgoers, Toronto After Dark was also voted Runner-Up for Best Film Festival in the City. In response to fan demand, this year’s much-anticipated 4th annual event returns once again to Toronto’s legendary Bloor Cinema, but for the first time in summer. We invite you to join thousands of film fans in Toronto this August 14-21, 2009 for eight unforgettable nights of cinematic mayhem!
A HUGE SOCIAL EVENT
Toronto After Dark also brings thousands of film fans together during the festival to meet up outside of our screenings. We host packed nightly social events including gala parties, pub socials, and a zombie-themed night!
THE TOP CHOICE FOR GENRE FILMMAKERS
To help filmmakers get even more buzz for their movies, we also hand out a number of awards at the end of our festival, which are recognized by the Independent Movie Database (IMDB). These include our Audience Choice Awards (all features and shorts eligible) and the Toronto After Dark Spirit Awards for outstanding independent filmmaking. Thanks to our festival’s first-class reputation amongst filmmakers, Toronto After Dark now receives more film entries than almost every other genre film festival worldwide. Filmmakers know that if they are are programmed at our festival, we will go out of our way to get them the very best audience and buzz possible. GENRE ELIGIBILITY
Toronto After Dark Film Festival seeks independent feature-length and short films from around the world in any of the following main genre groups:
Horror, Supernatural
Sci-Fi, Fantasy
Animation
Crime, Action, Thriller, Suspense
Cult, Bizarre, Genre-defying, Experimental
Documentaries, with a genre-related or cult/bizarre subject matter
Music Videos, with a genre-related or cult/bizarre aesthetic
SHORT FILM ELIGIBILITY:
Completed after January 1st, 2007
Run time of between 1 and 59 minutes
Not previously submitted to the festival
35 MM film print, Beta SP or DigiBeta (NTSC or PAL), or DVD (NTSC or PAL any region) will be available for screening during the festival (Aug. 14-21, 2009)
Films in a language other than English must be subtitled in English
FEATURE FILM ELIGIBILITY:
Completed after January 1st, 2007
Run time of 60 minutes or longer
Screening at our festival would be its Toronto Premiere (only applies to feature films)
Must not have played in Canada on TV/cable/satellite, nor be available on DVD in Canada, nor on the internet (only applies to feature films)
Not previously submitted to the festival
35 MM film print, Beta SP or DigiBeta (NTSC or PAL), will be available for screening during the festival (Aug. 14-21, 2009)
Films in a language other than English must be subtitled in English
