It is not often that I come across a Danish horror movie, so I rented Room 205 with high hopes. Now that I have watched this moody film, I have to say that I have found scarier things in my shower drain. Read on... The movie begins as a naive Katrine (Neel Ronholt), an English major, is moving into her new dorm room at the University. Her fellow co-eds are spoiled rich kids who take pleasure in tormenting any newcomers and soon play a horrible prank on Katrine; who only wishes to be accepted be her peers. The myths abound about a ghost in Room 205 only increase Katrine's apprehension and she begins to have frightening hallucinations. When the co-eds begin to be killed off and all eyes are on Katrine, she begins to unravel the mystery behind Room 205.

Now, if you are thinking this premise sounds familiar, you'd be right. This story line has been done, done...and done. And Room 205 does not improve on the age-old story nor does it bring anything new to the party. The movie script is sparse and the acting marginal, at best. I kept feeling like this was any other European drama; far too full of long, knowing glances between characters, while the viewer is waiting for something interesting to happen.

There are a few creepy ghost moments, but it was not nearly enough to save this film. And the English voice-overs neatly and completely remove any emotion that the film's actors may have conveyed with their lines.

Room 205 had potential, but sadly, it misses the mark. Recommended only as rental...only if you're a co-ed, in a creepy old dorm and it's a dark and stormy night...
