Love Him...Own Him...Kill Him...

When a rich, Thai architect dumps his pregnant mistress, Boom (Supakson Chaimongkol), she goes and pays a local witch-doctor to put a curse on him and his family. When they all die in some terrible manner, the police are puzzled as to the cause.

Thinking that she and her baby will inherit the man's wealth, Boom is beyond angry to learn that the man's ex-wife and children are going to get his riches. So, she concocts a terrible plan; she has the witchdoctor put a love spell on the ex-wife's eldest son. Soon, as planned, the young man falls for Boom and wants to marry her; but that is still not enough for the revenge driven-Boom. She wants everything, including all of them very dead...

This film, while having an interesting premise, gets off to a horrible start. It was only by sheer force of will that I continued to watch it. Then, at about the half-hour mark, the movie does pick-up a little bit; the story-line actually gets interesting. But, that is about all of the good things I can say about this film.

While the story is good, the acting is only mediocre at best, and the English dubbing sounded more like cartoon voices than emotional characters with a curses on their heads. I had some trouble with the Set-Up menus on this disk; trying to get it to play in Thai with English sub-titles would have improved the movie, I believe. I just could not get rid of the terrible English voice-overs.

Another deal-breaker was that everybody in this film dies throwing-up blood. The feared Thai-voodoo does not come off as scary; more like everyone is suffering from bad digestive problems...

Art of the Devil had potential, but really falls short...

Recommended only as a rental.
