"There's something about quiet men I find dangerous.." - John
If you have been looking for a dark, yet highly-entertaining sci-fi thriller, then may I suggest that you run out and rent Experiment tonight. Director Dan Turner and his team of talented British filmmakers have really outdone themselves with this one...Read on...
Experiment begins as we join a woman named Anna (Georgina French), as she tumbles out of the back of a van onto the street. Disoriented and frightened, Anna has no idea who she is, or where she is, and does not understand the language of the kind passersby who try and help her.
We then meet a man named Morgan (John Hopkins) who is suffering from the same amnesia; he pulls himself out of the river and stumbles around the city streets. But, not all of the helpful citizens are who they pretend to be. Far below the city streets are banks of computers and a team of scientists with a dark and terrible purpose. They follow Anna and Morgan's every move and set it up so the two amnesiacs will find one another. The two agree that they know each other, only not why.
Soon, the scientists begin their 'tests'; activating a small mechanism in Anna's brain, testing her reaction to certain stimuli; pain, fear, anger, aggression, etc. The results are horrible and fascinating to the team of scientists.
Anna and Morgan decide that they need to find out who they are as well as who is experimenting on them and why. Soon, one of the scientists, Joseph(Nick Simmons) discovers what his teammates have been up to -- turning innocent people into lab-rats. Now Joseph may be Morgan and Anna's only hope.
The viewer is pulled along with Anna and Morgan to discover the truth, as the characters in the movie. It is nice when a movie does not spoon-feed information to you -- just allows the details to unfold as you go along.
John Hopkins and Georgina French do a fabulous job in the roles of Anna and Morgan; creating believable and sympathetic characters we can all relate to. The musical score, by John Rand, is also a perfect addition to the movie. It helps crank up the emotion of the film as the tension escalates. And the city streets of Prague make for an interesting back-drop for the film.
All in all, Experiment has an interesting story-line, well-written dialogue and plenty of suspense, and it is a movie well worth your time.
Recommended as a rental and or purchase...
