Mutant Flesh-Eating Sheep Run Amok in New Zealand!
I happened to come across this film while in Blockbuster yesterday, and I am so happy that I happened to grab it. Black Sheep had me laughing so hard, my sides hurt, and the special effects in the movie were amazing! Peter Jackson and the talented blokes at the WETA Workshop sure outdid themselves with this one!
The movie begins with a sheep-aphobic Henry (Nathan Meister) as he's returning to his family's New Zealand sheep farm to sell it. In the 15 years since he left, his brother Angus (Peter Feeney) has been doing some questionable and decidedly cruel experiments on the sheep herd. Trying to breed a better strain of sheep, Angus and his lab team have only succeeded in creating a flesh-eating, aggressive version of the gentle critters we all know.
When a couple of inept animal-rights people manage to steal a large vial from the lab, they proceed to drop it in the woods and the maniacal-mutton have been let loose! The lamb-tot that was inside the vial manages to get back to the main herd and promptly infects all of the sheep. As the herd begins to attack and munch on local farmers, the disease spreads, turning unsuspecting people into flesh-eating murderers on-the-hoof.
Now, Henry really does have a reason to be afraid of the sheep!
This premise may sound completely ridiculous, but somehow, these talented filmmakers pull it off. The result is a grisly, bloody romp with a healthy dose of humor that keeps you watching, squirming and roaring with laughter. The actors all do a fantastic job in their roles, delivering some priceless one liners and horrified facial expressions.
If you are a fan of horror-comedies like Shaun of The Dead and The Cottage , then
Black Sheep should be the next one on your list. It is a movie that will undoubtedly be a cult classic, though it is probably not the best choice for those of you with weak stomachs or an aversion to meat.
But, for the rest of us, Black Sheep delivers lots of bloody-fur, tons of laughs and some baaaad-ass horror effects.
So make sure the children, and the livestock, are out of the room... Grab the mint jelly and settle-in for a hilarious and gruesomely fun movie!
Definitely recommended as a rental and/or purchase.
