The Pang Brothers have done it again! As I had so enjoyed the original The Eye, I couldn't wait to see The Eye 2...actually, I went and bought it and I am so glad that I did. The story line in The Eye 2, written by Jojo Hui, is completely different than the first movie, but is no less shocking and it definitely delivers the scares!
The movie begins as Joey (Shu Qi), who has just had a bad break-up, takes a gaggle of pills and lays down in bed to die. She survives the near-fatal overdose and wakes later in the hospital. Fuzzy from the drugs, Joey wonders who all the people are that are standing around her hospital bed. We will soon learn, as will she, that her near-death experience has left her with the power to see ghosts.
But, these ghosts are not just hanging around to visit; they have a purpose. After visiting with a Buddhist Master, Joey learns that these spirits are waiting to be reincarnated. To do that, they will inhabit a new life; a newborn baby will be their host. Though Joey hears that this is the normal cycle of life and death, she is terrified by the visions of ghosts lurking around pregnant women, waiting for their chance.
However, her fears are about to take a terrible turn for the worse. You see, Joey learns that she is pregnant and soon a ghostly woman is following her...
I thoroughly enjoyed watching The Eye 2 and I swear I can still feel the goosebumps. This movie has some great Boo-Factor and is full of terrifying images that haunted me long after the movie ended. The visual effects, care of Menfond Electronic Art, are gritty and frightening and add to the film's eerie atmosphere of grays and greens.
I love a movie that has me leaving the lights on when I go to bed, and The Eye 2 delivered! The story line is very interesting and original and Shu Qi does a great job in the role of Joey.
The Eye 2 is definitely a movie that you should run out and rent tonight!
Recommended as a rental and/or purchase.
