13: Game of Death, the fabulous psychological thriller out of Thailand, asks the question: What would you be willing to do for $100 Million dollars? The filmmakers manage to touch-on every human emotion in this movie and the result is amazing...

Chit (Krissada Terrence), a struggling musical-instrument salesman has just lost his girl-friend, his car is repossessed and just when things couldn't get any worse: he smokes his very last cigarette. Near his breaking point, Chit gets a mysterious cell-phone call asking him if he wants to be on a game show. Focusing on the promise of big cash prizes, Chit doesn't stop to wonder how the caller knows the details of his life as well as his financial troubles.

Having few options, Chit agrees. But, unlike a game-show with a film crew, blinking lights, bells and applause, Chit's 13 game challenges will come via his cell phone. He is to tell no one of the game and if he fails to complete a challenge he loses all the money.

The challenges are silly at first: starting off with killing a fly, but become more difficult and disturbed as they go along. As the game becomes more sinister, Chit will face impossible moral choices as his sanity hangs in the balance.

I found this movie's story line to be fascinating. In most horror/thrillers, terrible things happen to our here, whereas in this film our hero becomes the monster. Another nice touch was his cell-phone's ring-tone. It is the sound of an emergency siren; meant to get his attention or perhaps wake him from sleep. It's an annoying sound, but as the movie goes along, the ring of the phone is an ominous reminder that the next challenge is coming.

13: Game of Death is brilliantly and beautifully directed by Chookiat Sakveerakul and the acting was very impressive, especially Chit, played flawlessly by Krissada Terrence.

It is an incredibly tense, mind-bender of a movie that takes the viewer on a roller-coaster ride of emotions. Chit's actions are at once understandable, then heart-wrenching. All in all the movie is very disturbing and very original!

And you will be holding you breath at the end, believe me!

Highly recommended as a rental and/or purchase...
