"Nicole, you weren't gonna make-out with that kid..you were gonna EAT him!" - Chris (Tad Hilgenbrink)

Being a rabid fan of the original 1987 Lost Boys, I had to admit that I was a little worried when I heard that they had made another one. Supposedly, Lost Boys - The Tribe is a continuation of the original and though the characters and music are more up to date, the story is essentially the same.

Ex-Professional surfer, Chris (Tad Hilgenbrink, Grave Situations) and his little sister, Nicole (Autumn Reeser, TV's O.C.) move to Luna Bay after the death of their parents. The small seaside burg is full of bums, drug addicts, surf-shops and the ever-important blood-sucking vampire clan.

Soon Chris is forced to find a job and meets up with 1/2 of the original film's bumbling Frog-Brothers Team, Edgar (Corey Feldman, Lost Boys) . No longer running a comic-book shop, Edgar Frog now molds surfboards when not chasing vampire scum. With cloves of garlic and 'Stay Out!' signs everywhere, Edgar warns a doubtful Chirs about the dangers of the vampires in town.

That night, at a party, sister Nicole falls for a handsome Shane (Angus Sutherland) who just so happens to be the head vampire. After unwittingly drinking from a flask of Shane's blood, Nicole becomes a half-vampire, only needing to make her first kill to become a full-blown one. With Edgar Frog's help, Chris must stop Shane and his minions and save his sister from eternal damnation.

While Lost Boys - The Tribe is much more violent and sexual than its predecessor, it has a good sense of humor to go with the gruesome excitement. Not even remotely scary, the movie is an adrenaline pumped thrill ride of special effects, car chases and comical 'Frog' moments. The visual effects by Imagine Engine were well done and the modern musical score by Nathan Barr fits in perfectly with the overall young-and-sexy-vampire theme.

Be sure to check our the Special Features on the disc for music videos, alternate endings and a funny short by 'Edgar Frog' on the vampire slayer tricks and tools of the trade.

All in all, Lost Boys - The Tribe makes for an entertaining rental.
