"You thought it was me, gnawing on the passengers..Nah, I'm a vegetarian." -- Frank
I must admit that I held out little hope for the movie Flight of The Living Dead, as the premise of the film seemed so darn ridiculous. I mean, with the victims having nowhere to run, 30,000 feet above Toledo, this zombie movie couldn't be more than ten minutes long, if you think about it. But, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. This guilty-pleasure film, well directed by Scott Thomas, left me with six simple words to convey: "Come And Fly The Undead Skies!"
Flight of The Living Dead begins on a 747 bound for Paris, during a nasty storm. What the passengers do not know is that some scientists have added some last minute cargo; and the strange ice-chest comes with its own armed guard. The scientists argue amongst themselves how best to save "Kelly" and keep it a secret.
The quirky array of passengers, including quarreling lovers, a wanted felon, a nun and an armed air-marshal pass the time as the storm's turbulence becomes increasingly worse. Thanks to one good jolt, the mysterious cargo below is knocked over and an infected Kelly (Laura Cayoutte) thaws-out; the un-dead, in-flight entertainment has begun!
After Kelly bites a few of the passengers and crew, the survivors are forced to hide in the ventilation system, and try to survive the zombie-fest commencing in coach as well as figure out how to land the enormous plane without the crew.
Now, it may sound impossible; filming a zombie movie is such close-quarters, but they manage to do it in this movie and the result is gruesomely fun. I recognized almost every actor in the film from other movies that I have seen, and they all do a great job. The writers did not take themselves too seriously and put in some humor in the movie, which was a nice touch.
While it does not have much in the way of special effects, the zombie make-up was good and grisly. All in all The Flight of The Living Dead makes for a very entertaining rental.
