"...Where's the REST of him?" Ritchie (Stephen Dorff)
After a meticulously planned diamond heist goes arwry and he loses the gems, Ritchie (Stephen Dorff, Cold Creek Manor) finds himself in trouble with his Russian mob-boss,
Mr. Groznyi (Sean Pertwee, Event Horizon). To square his debt, Ritchie must steal a
bejeweled cross from the penthouse of a ritzy Moscow hotel. With the help of two bumbling henchmen, in what should be an easy snatch-and-grab, they find themselves trapped on the 22nd floor with an elevator full of hostages.
They soon discover that being caught by the police would be preferable to the trouble they are in. See, they have angered the penthouse owner; a twisted, blood-thirsty descendant of Ivan the Terrible. Decked out in traditional medieval garb -- fur, armor and boots -- Ivan Jr. proceeds to chase them all around the 22nd floor with a sword. This mad-man loves his work and gleefully kills them off one by one, all to the hysterical mix of both ballet and disco music.
Once this movie gets going, the blood gets flowing and the laughs keep coming! Botched is certainly not scary and I am sure that was the filmmaker's intent, and the results are fabulously funny. I really don't know how the actors managed to play their straight-faced parts, while all the ridiculous stuff goes on around them.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching Botched; a playful, bloody romp that rates right up there with movies like Severance and Sean of the Dead. Although there are no Special Features on this disc, watch the credits for a funny disclaimer about how no animals or humans were harmed in the making of the film, save for one of the crew that got his feelings hurt!
I happily recommend Botched as a rental and/or purchase.
Overall Rating: 3 1/2
