MELISSA BACELAR | THE QUEEN OF SCREAM: Dystopia Siren April 2008
Melissa Bacelar is our favorite hostess of horror! She's back in our clutches not only as one of Indie Horror 's top actresses, but also to let us in on her new online horror show, THE SCREAM!
She's a definite "shocker" folks...trust us.
Dystopia Magazine: How did THE SCREAM show come about?
Melissa Bacelar: I have been developing this show for two years. At first it started casually between my boyfriend and I. Everytime I did a horror convention I would come home with these funny stories and Spinner (the boyfriend) would say I should interview the fans. But when you are working it is hard to interview!! So about a year ago we were having lunch with the director, Rick Schiaffo and he mentioned that he shot a pilot in the 80's that was based on horror films and we talked about The Scream and then it really started to unfold. We all had ideas about what we would want to see being horror fans and before we knew it...Rick, Spinner, Meme (Rick's Wife) and I had The Scream!
You've given the sexy, horror hostess the perfect 21st century edge, what is it about the idea of the show that appeals to you most? (Besides looking absolutely gorgeous in tiny outfits? )
HORROR needs a BLONDE!! The big boobs are still there, [laughs] we just added a little sunshine. I know what horror fans like and there really isn't anything like this show out there. We took all the important stuff and added a little twist and SHOCK. The tiny outfits were in my closet so I figured...'Why not?'
You've got a show jammed with goodies! From clips from classic horror films such as Night of the Living Dead, as well as from the latest Indy releases, and you get..er..up close and personal with your latest 'Scream Babe.' Tell us, what other fun things we can expect to find on the show?
The Scream Babes and clips are staples of the show, so definitely stay tuned for more of those. We have some great segments that we want to add eventually...like strange ways people die and other FUN topics. We also have new ways that we will be torturing people. You never know what can happen in the Dungeon...
Do you have any future plans on interviewing Elvira for the show?
Heidi Martinuzzi who is our Ghoul on the Street interviewed her briefly for one of our upcoming segments, but I am dying to get her in my chair!
Heidi and Meme are a riot. Is Heidi still mad about there being no 'pink' in Pink Eye, and is Meme still in 'time out' with Z?
Meme is on probation right now. She may pop up again...or maybe she will end up in our stew. Heidi is usually upset about something...that's ok, not all of us can be as tolerant as I am.
Where did you dig up "Z" (J. C. Taylor)? I imagine he's the perfect co-host…the silent type, unless he's been at those intestines again…
"Z" definitely needs to watch what he eats. But he was a great find and will be around...Forever. I like a man that follows orders.
Love the "shocking" interviews, talk about being in the hot seat. The one with Trent was great! (Episode 1 Segment 2) What other wonderful instruments of torture can we look forward to?
My electric chair is one of my favorite devices. It's something that gets me HOT. Unfortunately we can't always lure our guests to my home. So "Z" and I get creative sometimes when we are out and about.
How has the reception been for the show with your own fans as well as the horror community?
So far we have gotten rave reviews and it seems there are favorite segments which we will keep. I am excited to present this to the horror community!
When is Episode 2 coming to the web? Sometime in April. We are almost ready to give it to you!
Outstanding! Are there any plans for The Scream show to make its way to DVD?
We have lots of plans for The Scream: TV, DVD...not sure right now but will keep you posted!
Last time we spoke (The Scream Queen Edition, February 2007) you had Slither, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The (original) Texas Chainsaw Massacre on your 'Top 3' list, has it changed at all since then?
Hatchet is amazing! I saw it a few months back and I am adding it to my list! Plus the new Halloween...I really liked it, and I am excited to see The Ruins!
What's the best horror film you've seen this year? What was the 'gotcha' scene for you?
I would say I Am Legend and the The Mist...again I really liked Hatchet 'cause it brought me back to the 80's horror that I love. 28 Weeks Later had a LOT of "Gotcha" moments as it really did keep me on the edge of my seat, but the most terrifying thing I've seen is the remake of Prom Night...
[Laughs] Seriously?!
There is nothing scarier than taking a decent 80's horror film and turning it into the most ridiculous, piece of shit-waste of time-Hollywood garbage you can imagine.
[Laughs] Now all the 'mildly curious' can thank her for keeping that $8.50 safely tucked away in your wallets.
What do you love most about horror? What groundbreaking film turned you to 'the darkside'?
The first horror film I ever saw was Children of the Corn. It freaked me out because my parents house had a corn field behind it! From there I saw some Stephen King stuff and I liked that, especially Pet Sematary, but what really hooked me...definitely the fans. They are so dedicated, it totally made the whole genre appealing.
How was shooting Pink Eye in an actual asylum? Where was the location?
We shot on Randall's Island in NY. It was really gross and official. Official because you needed to turn in ID and we were allowed up and then out. Nothing in between!
I've noticed that your next film is Hotel California (as Candy), when can we expect to catch it in theaters? Do you have any scenes with Tyson Beckford?
I believe Hotel California will be out in the Summer. I didn't have any scenes with Tyson, but I met him. He seems very nice and laid back.
Can you tell us anything about your next film features in, Columbus Day and The Gods of Circumstance?
Both of these are thrillers; I am not allowed to divulge to much but they both won't be out till 2009. I got to work with Val Kilmer and with John Schneider. Both amazing actors!
Knowing you as we do, you have even more things brewing! What's next for you?
I have the cover of Low Rider coming out in July and a ton of other magazines. I also have a radio show at www.BlogTalkRadio.com/anythinggoes every Monday night at 8pm Pacific. There is alot more so check my website, www.MelissaBacelar.com and of course TheScreamShow.com!
Thanks again for chatting with us Melissa, we love ya!
